In automotive styling, printable wraps offer unmatched design freedom — full graphics, intricate patterns, and bold branding. They make almost any look possible.

But with most printed wrap films on the market, durability can become an issue. The example shown above is not a CONERGIES product, but it illustrates a common challenge seen across the industry: visible fading after prolonged sun and weather exposure.

This is not about one brand or one installer — it is a widespread reality when inks and laminates lack the UV protection needed for long-term stability.

The Problem With Printed Wraps

Printed films place the color pigments in the ink layer. When UV protection is limited, those pigments degrade quickly under harsh sun exposure.

As a result, visible fading can occur within a year in high-UV regions like the Southwest or Southern Europe. Independent testing has shown ΔE color shifts of 5 or greater, which are clearly noticeable to the human eye.

This makes printed wraps ideal for short-term campaigns or seasonal liveries, but less suitable for vehicles expected to hold their appearance for years.

Where Color PPF Changes the Equation

Color Paint Protection Film (Color PPF) solves this problem by protecting both the paint and the color layer itself.

At CONERGIES, our films use:

  • Two-layer TPU encapsulation — the color layer is sealed above and below to protect pigments from UV radiation, weather, and abrasion.
  • Grade 8 UV Protection Package — backed by real testing, not just marketing terms.

Our Testing Standard

  • Films undergo 2,000 hours of constant UVA/UVB exposure and xenon arc UV exposure.
  • After testing, color shift measures ΔE < 3, the threshold where change is barely visible to the human eye.

These tests are performed under controlled conditions.

What This Means for Installers

  • Fewer callbacks due to fading issues
  • Lower rework costs because panels stay consistent in color
  • Stronger customer confidence knowing the color will last

While printable wraps offer unlimited design freedom, they often lack the UV durability needed for long-term use.

Color PPF changes that equation with two-layer TPU protection, a Grade 8 UV package, and ΔE < 3 even after 2,000 hours of extreme exposure testing — ensuring colors stay vibrant year after year.

For installers and car owners alike, this means a finish that holds its look, reduces rework, and builds customer trust over time.
